How to improve

Audience question

  • The only improvement I need to make within this question is too include more in depth examples of which types of media target which audiences and explain why
Representation question

  • to improve this question I need too explain in more depth how the characters are represented the way I presented them
  • I also need to use more examples of gender representation to get more marks for that question
Revision

  • to get myself a better grade I need to do more hours of revision. I need to revise Uses and Gratifications.
Coursework

  • to finish my coursework I need get my original photography to put onto the front covers of my finished magazines and I need to finish my media report

The Wanted - We Own The Night

The male characters in the video are shown as typical lads. they are in control of the situation as the girls in the video are coming to see them and all eyes are on them. This shows they have power. In the video they are not sexualised but they are attractive. Their appearance but also their clothing in the video makes them attractive and the video may attract more female attention.

The female characters in the video are stereotypical girls. They are putting on make-up and short clothes to attract male attention. Throughout the video they are quite sexualised as they are sometimes seen in very little clothing. They show no power in the video because they are over powered by the males.
Gender Representation

Casualty Analyse

The women in the programme are represented as strong powerful characters. They are all treated equal to men. We know this because they do a job you usually expect men to do. in the programme they are not sexualised or represented in a way that they are judged for what they look like.

magazine analysis rough copy 2

For my second rough magazine I decided to create a simple copy of a Vogue magazine. For the masthead I used a simple, quite sophisticated font. This is because Vogue is quite a popular, upper class magazine. I used red for the masthead because it stood out against the main image which is a strong image. The person in the main image, Cara Delevingne is a well known model by the target audience of the magazine. This means the magazine will appeal to people more. The image is quite a strong image and draws the readers in. I used two simple cover lines, one which is based around the main image. This may stop people buying the magazine as they can not see what will be inside. However having quite a simple layout shows it is for higher class working people. Also the price shows this. The price being £4.65 also shows this as working class people can not afford this.  The simple red and black colours do not identify what gender the magazine is for so the main image does this for us. However we know Vogue is a female fashion magazine.

magazine analysis, rough copy 1

For my rough idea of a magazine i have decided to create a teen version of Elle. For my masthead I used a simple font for both words however made them slightly different. I made the font for teen quite playful and childish to give the impression of teenagers. However used a more sophisticated font for Elle, as it is a more well known higher class magazine. I also used two different colours however chose colours that related to the target audience of teenage girls. The photo also relates to teenage girls. The person in the photo, Chloe Grace Moretz, is a very well known actress by most teenage girls and most teenage girls will look up to her as a positive role model. the cover lines across the magazine also relate to teenage girls as a lot of them are about make-up, clothes, shopping and diet. however, the diet cover line can be a bad influence on many teenage girls as many of them may feel after reading this they are overweight and need to lose weight. Although Elle is a quite well known high up magazine for upper class people, teen Elle is cheaper as a lot of teenage girls aren't earning money for themselves and cant afford to buy lots of copies. the layout of the magazine is quite full, there is a lot to read. this shows that it is also for more lower class as well as the price showing this. C's to D's in social integration. the colours in the magazine also show that it is for females as they are pinks/purples and light blues.

Look Magazine Analysis

Another popular womens magazine is LOOK. This is a magazine which includes celebrity real life stories and celebrity fashion. The colours on the magazine are quite bright and girly, colours used are mainly pinks and yellows and this shows they are aimed at women. The layout of the magazine is quite packed, there are a lot of cover lines. This shows its more for the lower class, C2's and below in the social integration. Also it shows the buyers of the magazine do not earn a lot of money because of the cover line 'under £25 miracle buys'. Also the price of the magazine is quite cheap. The title is once again covered by the celebrity in the main image however because its a well known magazine people recognise it anyway. Also because it bold and stands out. The celebrity in the image is well known and a icon for many young teens who would buy the magazine. Also those who like the celebrity will want to read the story about her therefore will buy the magazine.

Elle Magazine Analysis

Although the name of the magazine is covered by the celebrity in the main image, it is still clear what the magazine is. This is because its such a well known magazine and logo. It is so recognisable because not just on this issue, but on all of them the title stands out against the background and catches the readers eye. The main image is what catches the readers eye first, this is because its the biggest thing on the magazine. Also because the person in the image is such a well known role model for the main audience of the magazine.  The colours in the magazine show the magazine is aimed at females however they are quite dark colours. The cover lines also appeal to women because they are based around shopping, fitness and women celebrities that could also be role models for women. The magazine layout is quite spacious. This shows it is aimed at more higher class. A's and B's in social intergration.
